MUCH-ANTICIPATED ECSPONENT FORENSIC REPORT TO BE TABLED IN PARLIAMENT
The much-anticipated forensic report concerning the E350 million lost at Ecsponent Swaziland is complete and is expected to be tabled in parliament by Finance Minister Neal Rijkenberg within the next few weeks.
Commissioned by the Central Bank of Eswatini, the forensic investigation carried out by Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr (CDH) has revealed shocking details about how the money was lost. Contrary to some beliefs, South African-based fintech entrepreneur Dave Van Niekerk appears to be exonerated. Instead, one George Manyere is being implicated.
It is reported that Van Niekerk honoured all payment obligations up until the 'hostile' takeover of MyBucks from him, with issues arising only afterward.
"I'm aware that people have many unanswered questions regarding the lost funds, but wait until you see the final forensic report. The Central Bank has given the Finance Minister the green light to table the report in parliament, but there are delays due to police processes, hence the slow pace. Otherwise, the Minister has briefed us, and things are progressing. In fact, he has to table it before the House within the next few weeks," said a Member of Parliament who is part of the Finance Portfolio Committee.
The source told The Bridge that what is particularly shocking is that Dave Van Niekerk appears to be cleared in the report.
The matter is also before the courts, and ordinary Swazis who invested their funds at Ecsponent are demanding answers about the lost millions.
Efforts to get both Van Niekerk and Manyere were not successful at the time of compiling this report. In previous reports, Van Niekerk had denied ever being Director of Ecsponent Swaziland.
In a previous press statement, Van Niekerk said Ecsponent Swaziland had at all times been controlled by one George Manyere.
